Growth and the Start-Up Business Model: The Idea Incubators
Start-ups have long enough operated as technology or idea incubators. They have been the places where a technology is developed by a highly motivated and dedicated group of people. The trend has been to as if copy a start-up company with its ideas until the technology has developed to a stage where it can be commercialized and marketed.
But why start-ups? Is it because of the idea that smaller companies are more innovative? Real-life situations have proven the contrary. The most innovative companies nowadays are of the giant size, like Microsoft, IBM, to name a few Polish ones like PKN Orlen or other Polish big players. What is so special about start-ups that makes them more attractive to innovators who prefer not to join one of the major companies instead? Maybe, somehow, it is that innovative spirit of their personnel? Or it is just a matter of considerable autonomy that is given to particular members of their staff?
